Sentinel of the Sierras

In this late-summer capture from the granite sweep of Olmstead Point, Yosemite’s iconic Half Dome rises like the most overwhelming icon that it actually is in the United States. Almost a feeling of sneaking up on the massive granite figure with its face in the warm setting sun made this one of my most favorite photo trips ever. The fleeting interplay of shadow and light across its weathered face evokes a profound stillness, contrasting against the brooding skies overhead. Framed by the silhouettes of pine and stone, this image reveals the enduring power of the Sierra Nevada's crown jewel.

This image was captured with my Mamiya 645 medium format camera with a Carl Zeiss 80mm Planar lens on Ilford Delta 100 Professional film.
