Captured in the remote backcountry of Sonoma County, California, I captured this image which balances celestial drama with pastoral life. Crowned by the watchful eye of a near-full moon, a rugged boulder and a scattering of grazing cattle cement the image in earthiness. I felt a sense of security in the scene, in that the cattle were being guarded by the heavens above. Photographed with a Mamiya 645 medium format camera with a Zeiss 80mm lens, on Ilford Delta 400 Professional film, the image reveals a graceful tonal range and crisp detail.
