Coastal Awakening

My photographic travels took me to the Big Sur coast of Northern California, where I was looking to capture the rugged, yet soft light and textures of the inland terrain. The hypnotic cloud cover became the icing on the cake. This capture was perfect for my plans. The view looks inland from the highlands above the historic Point Sur Lighthouse, where the coastal mountains roll endlessly into the distance. Grain, contrast, and texture combine in a timeless study of natural rhythm and light.

Captured with a Mamiya 645 medium format camera and Kodak Tri-X 400 film, this black-and-white image reveals the dramatic interplay of sunlight and shadow over ancient, undulating terrain.
